Mechanism of Action:

The medicine is a combination of two drugs: Montelukast and Fexofenadine. The former is a leukotriene antagonist, which works by blocking the action of leukotriene (chemical messengers). This leads to reduction of swelling/inflammation in the airways passage and nose and also improves the symptoms. Whereas the Fexofenadine is an anti-allergic, works by blocking the action of Histamine, which is another chemical messenger responsible for watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing.

Indications:

Fexomac M tablets are indicated for the treatment of allergic rhinitis in adults and adolescents15 years of age and older

Adults: One tablet once daily

USE IN SPECIFIC POPULATIONS:

Paediatric Use: Not recommended to children less than 15 years of age. The safety and efficacy of Montelukast in children less than 15 years has not been established.

Renal Impairment: There is no data of this combination in renally impaired patients.

Hepatic Impairment: No dosage adjustment is required in case of mild to moderate hepatic insufficiency.

Pregnancy: There are no studies in pregnant women. Fexomac M should be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the foetus. It may be used during pregnancy only if it is considered to be clearly essential.

Lactation: There are no studies in lactating women. Fexomac M should be used in nursing women only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the infant. It may be used in breast-feeding only if it is considered to be clearly essential

Geriatric Use: No dosage adjustment in the elderly is required.

Adverse Reactions: Common side effects include:

Fexofenadine – headache, drowsiness, dizziness and nausea. Montelukast – dyspepsia, abdominal pain, rash, dizziness, headache, fatigue, fever, trauma, cough and nasal congestion

EFFECTS ON ABILITY TO DRIVE AND USE MACHINES Fexomac M has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines. However, individuals have reported drowsiness or dizziness.

  • You have been prescribed Fexomac M Tablet to help relieve symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, and cough.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Fexomac M Tablet as it may cause increased sleepiness.
  • Stop taking Fexomac M Tablet at least three days before taking an allergy test as it can affect the test results.
